Older Wiser Lutheran Seniors
By Joanne Biedinger
OWLS is our adult social ministry which is open to all adults of the congregation. We generally have 25 to 30 people attend a monthly activity. We try to meet the second Tuesday of every month but we have no “business” meetings. In December, we have a Christmas luncheon where we exchange “white elephant” items. Some of the items have been passed on from year to year and these generate many laughs. We also bring donations for the Veterans Hospital—socks, underwear, pajamas, coffee, etc. At this luncheon, a list is passed around for members to sign up for a month of their choice. This list is then typed and distributed to the membership and a copy is put on the OWLS bulletin board which is next to the south door of the gymnasium. Recent activities have been a tour of a small radio station which broadcasts out of Maple Knoll Retirement Community on Springfield Pike, followed by lunch in their dining room; tour of a TV studio followed by lunch at a restaurant; the Butterfly Exhibit at Eden Park followed by lunch; the Newport Aquarium followed by lunch . . . as you can tell, we like to eat out! Any adult is invited to join with us...watch for information in the Sunday Messenger and check out the information on the OWLS bulletin board. We hope you'll join with us!
