Good Friday Midday Meditation Service
In earliest times, all the events of Christ’s Passion, from the Last Supper to the resurrection, were celebrated in one continuous service called Pascha. The observance of the Triduum (three days) views Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter services as one continuous liturgy.
Good Friday, whose name may have its roots in an ancient title of “God’s Friday”, is one portion of the Triduum liturgy and recalls our Lord’s arrest, suffering and crucifixion. This afternoon’s service, with its Scripture readings, prayers and hymns, is designed to call attention to the fact that we are all accomplices at the cross, yet we receive God’s love and mercy because of His great love for us. Our Good Friday worship service causes us to reflect on the awesome sacrifice of Christ and our own response to it.
