Elders
Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect… He must not be a recent convert… He must also have a good reputation with outsiders.
— 1 Timothy 3:2-7
Purpose and Nature of the Elders Ministry
- Be concerned about the spiritual welfare and nourishment of every member of the congregation, both individually and corporately, and provide appropriate spiritual care.
- Attend to the spiritual, emotional and physical health, and welfare of the pastor and his family.
- Assist and encourage the pastor in fulfilling his duties. The Elders Ministry shall share with the pastor the concerns for the spiritual life of the congregation (2 Timothy 2:2)
