Church History
King of Kings Lutheran Church of Mason, Ohio began as an outreach mission of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Madisonville, Ohio. Worship services were first held in a blinding snowstorm on January 8, 1978 at the Resort Inn at Kings Island. The pastor and vicars of St. Paul served the congregation in its early months. God blessed this mission plant, and on February 14, 1980, King of Kings Lutheran Church was born as 30 people signed her charter; many of whom are still part of the faith family today and/or have younger generations attending now.
The current King of Kings campus was built over a period of fifteen years. Thanks to a donation from our mother congregation, St. Paul, the congregation was able to dedicate its first building – chapel, restrooms, offices, storage and a small narthex – in May of 1985. The fellowship hall wing was added in 1988, and in 2000, the congregation opened a multipurpose room, remodeled narthex, classrooms and a nursery.
King of Kings is a congregation with bold faith:
- A daughter congregation – Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church, Liberty Township, Ohio, was chartered in 1988 as a result of King of Kings families with a heart for outreach.
- The vision of the congregation allowed us to open our Early Childhood Education Ministries (ECEM) in 1995 to partner with parents in early education and Christian formation. ECEM has grown from one classroom to five age-based programs for children 2 years of age through Kindergarten. The preschool and Kindergarten are accredited by the National Lutheran Schools Association. The children are taught by a capable loving staff, led by our current director Vicky Lesiak.
- Rev. Richard Tursic, pastor, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Florence, KY, Rev. Benjamin Rucker, pastor, Bethel Lutheran Church, Round Lake, MN and Rev. Lewis Polzin, pastor, Trinity Lutheran Church, Bemidji, MN are sons of the congregation. Other sons and daughters of the congregation have studied at Concordia Universities to enter professional church work such as teaching and family life ministry.
- King of Kings is an active, registered service organization of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.
King of Kings, as a family of faith, unites under the banner “Connecting People to Christ Now and Forever”. As we trust in God’s promises and rejoice in His grace, we are eager to help those in our community-and beyond-to have a relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who brings transformation and purpose to our daily lives and hope for our future.
